John DeCarlis is an experienced therapist who is licensed as a clinical social worker in Maryland, Missouri, and Kansas. With a direct, approachable, and interactive therapy style, he believes in working with clients who have taken the first steps towards change without stigmatizing labels. John’s approach combines strengths-based, acceptance and commitment, cognitive behavioral, and solution-focused therapies, with a strong emphasis on skill-building. He is dedicated to tailoring the dialog and treatment plan to meet each client’s unique needs. John practices a type of therapy that focuses on helping clients accept what is out of their control and commit to actions that enrich their lives, ultimately aiming to help them create a rich and meaningful life. With specialized experience in areas such as depression, anxiety, stress, grief and loss, relationship, trauma, and career/workplace issues, John is honored to work with fellow veterans as a retired Army officer and former therapist to post-deployment military personnel. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Maryland School of Social Work and has been a licensed clinical social worker for over 20 years.
