What Kamilah says about the work

Reproduced in full and unedited - not summarised, not tightened, not rewritten in a house voice.

Hello, I am Kamilah you have made a big step to listen to yourself, be brave and courageous to seek help. You have made the choice to take a chance on the first step to change. I am a licensed clinical social worker and I have over 15 years of experience and I am passionate about the healing process. With this stance, I work with clients from young childhood through adulthood who are experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, grief , loss, life stressors/ adjustment, life transitions, PTSD, self esteem, relationship issues, trauma, school stress, coping skills, anger management, behavior management, learning disabilities, stress, parent coaching/ skills, postpartum support and family conflict. My approach uses concepts from different areas of theories and practices with a focus on consciousness and awareness. I draw from a range of clinical modalities and use a holistic and eclectic approach to empowerment that is tailored strategically and uniquely for you.

Transformative work starts with having a strong collaboration where we can process the presenting problem together to gain a better understanding. This will allow me to provide insight for what our collaborative approach will be. Individual wellness leads to community wellness and I would love to help heal minds and souls to inspire growth and build resilience. Therapy helps and the first step is to acknowledge that there is a need for change and that the emotional pain is impacting your life.

I provide a safe space for us to comfortably explore thoughts, feelings, behaviors and beliefs by acknowledging, accepting and acting together using a strength based foundation.

In my work with children and families, preventative work as well as past work as a Dean of Students and as a certified school social worker, it is important to understand all of the components that impact my client and help them through the process of self-discovery. My goal is to enhance a child’s and caregiver's ability to function as part of a family and community and support you in achieving a safe and family unit, ensuring the well being of every member. I strive to help caregivers by and giving them the ability to support their child as well as improving the child’s ability to gain skills to be successful in the home I will support, guide, mentor, coach you in functioning successfully. I assist and provide psycho-education to address specific issues that disrupt or jeopardize successful outcomes. I will listen, without judgement. Allow me to nurture and inspire you to blossom and grow by remaining solution focused. On this journey, there will be healing and strengthening through our deep reflections together. We will focus on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts and environment. In this individual healing we will pour into ourselves and in turn pour back into our communities. Through this warm and inviting process We can try to put our expertise together to figure out how best to help you.

03 · What happens next

From this page to a first session

Kamilah practises through BetterHelp, so the route in is BetterHelp's. This is that sequence, written by Maker Therapy from the platform's published process - not a description of Kamilah's own practice, and not a promise about how quickly anything happens.

  1. A questionnaire, not a booking form

BetterHelp opens with a set of questions about what you are dealing with, what you want from therapy, and any preferences on the therapist. You are not booking Kamilah at this point.

  2. Naming Kamilah specifically

BetterHelp matches algorithmically by default, so asking for Kamilah is a step you have to take. There is a field for requesting a specific therapist during sign-up, and you can switch afterwards from your account. Starting from a link on this page does not by itself assign you to Kamilah.

  3. If the caseload is full

You will be offered somebody else rather than put on a waitlist. Worth knowing, because it is easy to assume a match is the person you asked for.

  4. The first conversation

A first session is typically history and orientation: what brought you, what has been tried, what you want to be different. It is also where the questions in the next section belong.

  5. If the fit is wrong

Changing therapist on BetterHelp does not need a reason. A first session that does not click is common and is not a verdict on therapy. That option existing is the main practical difference between a platform and a private practice.

04 · Before you commit

2 questions worth asking Kamilah

Built from what Kamilah actually lists, so they are answerable and specific rather than generic. Maker Therapy's, not Kamilah's - Kamilah has not seen them and is under no obligation to answer any of them.

  • “With 17 years in, what has changed most in how you work?”

Long experience is only an advantage if it has been examined. This tends to surface whether it has.

  • “How do you handle the gap between sessions if something comes up?”

On BetterHelp this varies a great deal by therapist. Better to know the rhythm now than to discover it on a bad week.
