What Noah says about the work
Reproduced in full and unedited - not summarised, not tightened, not rewritten in a house voice.
My name is Noah Nelson, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I received my masters of social work from The University of Michigan, and have 15 years of experience working with various age groups, ethnicities, and backgrounds, all the way from Elementary school age children to adults. I work with the LGBTQIA+ population as well, and pride myself on taking a non-judgemental approach with each individual that I work with. I work primarily with severe trauma, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and body image. I am a trauma informed therapist and primarily use elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in my work.
My approach to therapy is very empowerment based, and I make sure to meet each individual where they are currently with no pre-conceived notions or thoughts, and my goal is to help you navigate through your therapeutic journey with me to accomplish your goals. I am very open-minded, encourage individuality and embrace what makes us unique, and promote being our true and vulnerable selves. I know that therapy is a journey, and there is not always a right or wrong way to solve a problem, but through this therapeutic journey, we will work to find a way to navigate through when there doesn't feel like there is a solution.
Clients can expect to feel supported, valued, and that they have been heard and respected during each session. My goal is to help you better process and understand how to manage your mental health, not to tell you what you are doing wrong, or how to live your life. I want to empower you to take the important steps to accomplish your goals with me as your therapeutic tour guide.

03 · What happens next
From this page to a first session
Noah practises through BetterHelp, so the route in is BetterHelp's. This is that sequence,
written by Maker Therapy from the platform's published process - not a description of
Noah's own practice, and not a promise about how quickly anything happens.
A questionnaire, not a booking form
BetterHelp opens with a set of questions about what you are dealing with, what you want from
therapy, and any preferences on the therapist. You are not booking Noah at this point.
Naming Noah specifically
BetterHelp matches algorithmically by default, so asking for Noah is a step you have to
take. There is a field for requesting a specific therapist during sign-up, and you can switch
afterwards from your account. Starting from a link on this page does not by itself assign you to
Noah.
If the caseload is full
You will be offered somebody else rather than put on a waitlist. Worth knowing, because it is
easy to assume a match is the person you asked for.
The first conversation
A first session is typically history and orientation: what brought you, what has been tried,
what you want to be different. It is also where the questions in the next section belong.
If the fit is wrong
Changing therapist on BetterHelp does not need a reason. A first session that does not click is
common and is not a verdict on therapy. That option existing is the main practical difference
between a platform and a private practice.
04 · Before you commit
2 questions worth asking Noah
Built from what Noah actually lists, so they are answerable and specific rather than generic.
Maker Therapy's, not Noah's - Noah has not seen them and is under no obligation to answer
any of them.
“How do you decide when someone is ready to work on a traumatic memory itself?”
Pacing is the biggest safety question in trauma work. A clear, unhurried answer here matters more than any credential.
“How do you handle the gap between sessions if something comes up?”
On BetterHelp this varies a great deal by therapist. Better to know the rhythm now than to discover it on a bad week.
