What Sandra says about the work

Reproduced in full and unedited - not summarised, not tightened, not rewritten in a house voice.

Hello, I’m Sandra A. Butler, MA, LPC. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 18 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges and move toward healing, growth, and greater emotional well-being.

I believe therapy should be a safe and supportive space where you can be yourself without fear of judgment. Life can sometimes leave us feeling overwhelmed, anxious, discouraged, stuck, or uncertain about what to do next. You do not have to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. Sometimes the first step is simply having a place where you can talk openly, feel heard, and begin making sense of what you are experiencing.

Throughout my career, I have worked with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, ADHD, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, family conflict, life transitions, women’s issues, parenting concerns, and high-conflict co-parenting situations. I also have extensive experience working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families.

My therapeutic style is warm, compassionate, collaborative, and practical. I believe that you are the expert on your own life, while my role is to help you recognize patterns, understand how past experiences may be affecting your present, develop healthier coping strategies, and identify realistic steps toward the changes you want to make.

My approach is integrative and tailored to the needs of each client. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, trauma-informed approaches, strength-based interventions, and EMDR-informed techniques. When desired by the client, I am also comfortable incorporating faith and spirituality into the therapeutic process.

I especially enjoy helping people understand the connection between their experiences, emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Whether you are struggling with trauma from your past, difficulty setting boundaries, people-pleasing, relationship problems, grief, anxiety, depression, or simply feeling stuck, our work together will focus not only on understanding what happened to you, but also on helping you determine where you want to go from here.

I believe healing does not mean that your past never happened. It means that your past no longer has to determine your future.

Reaching out for therapy can feel uncomfortable, particularly when you are accustomed to handling things on your own or being the person everyone else depends on. My goal is to meet you where you are, help you identify your strengths, and work alongside you as you create meaningful and sustainable change.

If you are ready to begin that journey, I would be honored to walk alongside you.

03 · What happens next

From this page to a first session

Sandra practises through BetterHelp, so the route in is BetterHelp's. This is that sequence, written by Maker Therapy from the platform's published process - not a description of Sandra's own practice, and not a promise about how quickly anything happens.

  1. A questionnaire, not a booking form

BetterHelp opens with a set of questions about what you are dealing with, what you want from therapy, and any preferences on the therapist. You are not booking Sandra at this point.

  2. Naming Sandra specifically

BetterHelp matches algorithmically by default, so asking for Sandra is a step you have to take. There is a field for requesting a specific therapist during sign-up, and you can switch afterwards from your account. Starting from a link on this page does not by itself assign you to Sandra.

  3. If the caseload is full

You will be offered somebody else rather than put on a waitlist. Worth knowing, because it is easy to assume a match is the person you asked for.

  4. The first conversation

A first session is typically history and orientation: what brought you, what has been tried, what you want to be different. It is also where the questions in the next section belong.

  5. If the fit is wrong

Changing therapist on BetterHelp does not need a reason. A first session that does not click is common and is not a verdict on therapy. That option existing is the main practical difference between a platform and a private practice.

04 · Before you commit

2 questions worth asking Sandra

Built from what Sandra actually lists, so they are answerable and specific rather than generic. Maker Therapy's, not Sandra's - Sandra has not seen them and is under no obligation to answer any of them.

  • “With 18 years in, what has changed most in how you work?”

Long experience is only an advantage if it has been examined. This tends to surface whether it has.

  • “How do you handle the gap between sessions if something comes up?”

On BetterHelp this varies a great deal by therapist. Better to know the rhythm now than to discover it on a bad week.

06 · Provenance

Where every line on this page came from

Sandra's name, credential, state, subjects, approaches and biography are read from BetterHelp's therapist roster, which Maker Therapy re-reads once a day; this page reflects the reading taken on 7 Oct 2026. The licence number and NPI are cross-checked against public registers.

The plain-English method descriptions, the first-session walkthrough and the questions are written by Maker Therapy and labelled as such wherever they appear.

Maker Therapy is not BetterHelp, does not take bookings, and has not met Sandra. There are no reviews or ratings on this page because we have no way to verify one. If you start therapy through a link here, we may be paid a commission - it does not change your price and it does not affect who appears here or in what order.
